Amoxil is an antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is a penicillin type of antibiotic. The main ingredient in this drug is amoxicillin. Glaxo Smith Kline is the drug Manufacturing Co. That produces amoxicillin under the brand name Amoxil.
How the drug works?
The drug comes in form of capsules, suspension and in form of injections as well. This drug is also available as paediatric suspensions. It is a very frequently recommended medicine by the doctors for the treatment of bacterial infections of the body. The intravenous injections of amoxicillin are indicated in severe form of infections or we are the infections cannot be treated by the administration of medicines orally.
The bacteria which attack the body have an outer covering around their cells called cell walls. These cell walls are vital for the survival of the bacteria. The penicillin type of antibiotic amoxicillin will attack the cell wall of the bacteria and damage it. This cell wall prevents the leaking out of the vital cell organelles of the bacteria. As there is damage to the cell wall, the bacteria can proliferate or survive in the body and thus amoxicillin controls the bacterial infections.
Amoxicillin is indicated for the treatment of skin ailments, upper or lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, infections of the soft tissue, some sexually transmitted diseases, dental infections and infections of the blood.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
This medicine is allowed in both pregnant women and nursing mothers that carry a fetus or a nursing a newborn. This medicine can pass into small quantities into the mother’s milk but it do not cause any harm to the newborn baby.
Side effects of amoxicillin
The common side effects of this medicine include diarrhoea, nausea, and skin rash. There are some uncommon side effects that include vomiting, itching and dizziness. Dizziness can occur rarely and sometimes there can be rare side effects like hepatitis, colitis, jaundice and convulsions.
Interactions of this medicine
The medicine can increase the effect of warfarin or the anticoagulation medicine in the body. This can reduce the removal of methotrexate drug from the body. Typhoid vaccines should not be taken until 72 hours after finishing the course of amoxicillin. Probenecid can increase the blood levels of amoxicillin.
